Rule Britannia! Celebrate the best of British with our new GB range

Monday, June 6th, 2011

The confetti has been swept up, the balloons taken off the Aston Martin and Kate and Wills have recently returned from their honeymoon in paradise. But, the British celebrations aren’t over!

With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics just around the corner, plus another royal wedding taking place this summer, we can’t help but feel that now really is a good time to be British!

Indeed, here at Hallmark HQ, we are proud to be Brits! We’re proud of our stiff upper lip, our Royal Family, countryside walks and afternoon tea… Not to mention our very English eccentricities (the way we fire up the BBQ and dust off the flip flops at the first sign of sunshine is one that springs to mind!)

So much so that, in celebration of all things British, we’ve launched a brand new GB range with Brit-cool designs featuring the best of British!

Yes, it’s true, we do love our little isle – and no matter how shocking our Eurovision entry or how rubbish our summer is, there’s no getting away from this, so now we have a special set of cards to prove it!

Rule Britannia, Rule Hallmark!

Christmas is here but we are celebrating those forgotten birthdays

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

We love Christmas here at Hallmark. But we know how annoying it can be if you’ve got a birthday over the festive period that everyone seems to forget about!

Well each Wednesday we’ll be putting a Twitter and Facebook call out to anyone who’s got one of these ‘forgotten’ birthdays, like singer Dido (24th Dec) or actress Sienna Miller (28th Dec). We want to hear your sob stories; perhaps you only get one set of presents, do you get turkey leftovers for your birthday tea, maybe your friends forgot about your special day all together!

The best sob story each week will win a great set of Hallmark birthday party invites, meaning people will really have no excuse for not turning up!

Hallmark Cards Celebrates all the Great Things to do Before You’re 30

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

If you’re about to turn 30, and want to ensure you’ve done it all, then Hallmark Cards could be coming to the rescue as it  publishes the definitive guide of ’things to do before you’re 30’, but with a twist – it’s completely crowd-sourced via Twitter and Facebook from more than 700 people who have already reached the milestone!

Hallmark is launching the B430 guide in support of its current TV ad, which tells the real-life story of two friends, Rebecca and Katie, and all their experiences together, in the run up to one of their 30ths .

Now, after more than 700 submissions, Hallmark has narrowed the list down to a final 30 ‘must- do’ challenges, which is being published on www.hallmark.co.uk. From driving Route 66, to Moonwalking across a crowded dancefloor and dancing The Conga, it’s certainly diverse and challenging!

The list can be split into six main subject areas, with, perhaps unsurprisingly, travel coming top

1)      Travelling experiences (26% of entries). Travelling the world, living in India, partying in Vegas, walking the Great Wall of China…

2)      Life experiences (20%) taking a trip in a hot air balloon, trying horse riding, learning to ice skate like Torvill and Dean, treating yourself to a fabulous designer bag…

3)      Out-there or bizarre activities (19%). Changing your name by deed poll, dating an A-list celeb, spending the day speaking only in movie quotes, auditioning for a reality TV show…

4)      Wholesome or charitable (14%). Rescuing an animal, doing the London Marathon for charity, becoming a blood donor…

5)      Extreme feats of daring (10%). Going zorbing down a steep hill, trying rally driving, climbing the highest mountain in the world…

6)      Family and friends (10%). Making Christmas dinner for more people than you’ve got room for, kissing that special person in the rain, falling in love and staying in love, really getting to know your parents.

Jon Taylor, from Hallmark Cards online, commented: “The Hallmark.co.uk online card service lets people create their ultimate personalised card with everything from choice of picture through to layout, colour and funny verse. We thought it would be great to take this a few steps further and create our personal guide of what people need to achieve before they hit 30!

“We’ve had a huge number of suggestions for the guide and whittling them down to a final 30 was a huge, but fun challenge. Reaching any big birthday can cause people to reflect, so we hope this guide gets people thinking about all the great experiences they’ve had, while also making them smile – no matter what age they are!

A total of 743 people submitted suggestions for the ‘B430’guide. Below is Hallmark’s favourite 30 ‘must-dos’.

  • Attempt to Moonwalk across the dancefloor in a crowded nightclub

Hallmark Announce Our B430 Competition Winner!

Friday, May 28th, 2010

In April, we launched our B430 competition where we aimed to produce the definitive ‘crowd-sourced’ guide of ’things to do before you’re 30’. Well, we certainly got a good response and hundreds of you gave us your suggestions and images through Facebook and Twitter.

After a week of wading through the entries here at Hallmark HQ, we think we’ve now seen it all, from the good to the bad, the funny to the very rude – and we’ve now decided our winner.

So…congratulations to Nicola Abbot (@Popple79) from Lancashire, with her entry:

“Attempt to moonwalk across the dance floor in a crowded nightclub”.

Nicola wins a fantastic iPad – we’ll be in touch to arrange delivery.

We chose Nicola’s entry because we felt it really ticked the boxes for what we were looking for; it was funny, original, and importantly, achievable!

We’re going to be publishing the definitive list of ’30 things to do before you’re 30’ right here on the blog later this summer, so you can see how many you’ve achieved! But a massive thank you to everyone who entered. Here’s a selection of some of our favourites that didn’t quite make it…

  • Dance all night and get home when it’s light! @LoLoPants
  • Audition for a reality show, regardless of your ability or reputation. @Dangerrich
  • Spend a night in a haunted house with friends and torches @mummiafelice
  • Get your kicks on Route 66! @Piperty
  • Set a Guinness World Record @lanthesunlover

What must you do B430?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Having launched our B430 competition yesterday we have been overwhelmed with the number of entries we have received despite the fact that the competition has only been running for a day!

In case you were unaware, we asked people on Twitter to tweet in ideas for what you should do before you’re 30, using the #b430. Similarly on Facebook, we asked entrants to do the same except we requested that they include a picture along with their idea. The pictures shown are two of our Facebook entries – a skydive and climbing Everest. We have had so many great ideas that whittling them down to 30 for our crowd-sourced guide to 30 things that you must do before your 30 is going to be a massive challenge, let alone deciding on one final lucky winner, who will receive a brand new Apple iPad!

If you haven’t entered yet then don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time because the closing date isn’t until the 3rd May, meaning that you still have a good few days to come up with some inspiring ideas to share with others as to what they should ensure they do before they reach the big 3-0.

Keep those ideas coming everyone and look out for our 30 before 30 guide book which will be available for download from the website in May!
