Our pick of the most embarrassing dad moments!

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Father’s Day is not far away, so as part of last week’s #THIFriday, we asked our twitter followers to share the most embarrassing things their dads had done to them. The entries flooded in, and we were astonished to read some of the most unspeakable acts inflicted on the @hallmarkUK community, which were sure to make any kid’s cheeks go ruby red!

The entries were so funny, we just couldn’t keep them to ourselves so here are a few of the best (or worst, depending on how you look at it) embarrassing dad gaffs!

  • @PrettyBlueBirds Dad came to pick me up from a club when I was 18 and actually came in complete with Roy Cropper style bag!
  • @KatDray My Dad sleepwalked NAKED across the landing when all my friends were in my bedroom with the door open. The shame!
  • @MissBeautyL On my 16th birthday my dad brought me a Barbie doll?? Really, he made me open it in front of all my friends and boyfriend!
  • @eleanor731 I had my 8th Bday at a local swimming pool & Dad wore green thong swimming trunks! Blushing doesn’t come close
  • @jming1 I’m wheel chair bound and when I was 7, my dad covered my chair in tin foil and entered me in carnival as ‘star trek’.
  • @IanH65 My dad has just bought an ambulance which he is currently driving b4 turning it into a camper van

Pretty terrible huh?! Still, no matter how cringe-worthy our dads are, we can’t help but love’em! After all, who else would give us a lift when we want to go somewhere?!

Love Hallmark x

To make sure he knows that all is forgiven, don’t forget to send him a Father’s Day (Sunday 19th June) card this year. We’ve a great selection and at the moment you can get £1 off medium cards when you enter MAYDAD at the checkout. (Offer ends on the 26th of May 2011)

Beating hundreds of dads from across the UK, father of two Andy scooped the £1,000 top prize thanks to some killer dance moves as he battled to win the coveted crown. You can check him out in action here.

Hallmark Cards Celebrates the Lost Art of the art of the Dad Joke

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

•       World-first as we publish the first ‘Dad-Sourced’ joke book
•       Hundreds of terrible jokes including efforts from Phil Tufnell & Chris Evans

This Father’s Day, we are celebrating the dubious art of the “Dad Joke”, as we publish the world’s first joke book consisting entirely of groDad sourced joke bookan-worthy funnies from real dads across the UK.

Over the past three weeks, we have been busy asking UK fathers to submit their ultimately bad “dad” jokes – as part of its build up to Father’s Day on June 20th.

Thousands of dads – including celebrities Phil Tufnell and Chris Evans – have got involved via our Twitter feed with their best – or in this case worst – efforts, with everything from old classics to cringe worthy puns.

Our humour team has been busy road testing the jokes for their ‘groan factor’ and have come up with the definitive 50 – which will be published here on the blog as well as turned into a special range of Father’s Day cards in 2011.

•       What’s brown and sticky? A stick.
•       Two fish in a tank one said to the other, How do we drive this?
•       What do you call a flying policeman? A helicopper
•       Why were ancient Egyptian children confused? Because their daddies were mummies
•       I renamed my iPod ‘The Titanic’ so that when I plug it in, iTunes tells me ‘The Titanic is syncing
•       why are pirates, pirates? because they arrrrrrrrrrreeeeee
•       watch out for Ariel,  I hear she is a real cold fish
•       ME: I’m Thirsty …. Dad: I’m Friday

To download the joke book click

Remember we send your cards out the same day 1st class if you order before 2pm. The recommended last order deadline for Father’s Day is 2pm on the 16th of June. If you do forget, you can still send one of our new premium ecards!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

One lucky dad from Lincolnshire has been given the Father’s Day surprise of a lifetime – his very own starring role in a TV advertisement dedicated solely to him!

James Crewsden, who lives in Grimsby, was secretly nominated by his daughter Anna in our recent competition where we searched for the star of our new Father’s Day advertisement.

But here’s the twist; James had no idea he was the lucky winner until it aired for the first time on ITV1 last night (2nd June)! You can watch his reaction here.

Jim’s reaction

Then new Father’s Day advertisement, features Anna talking to camera telling her dad why she loves him. It will be shown more than 60 times on national and regional TV channels during the next month.

The advertisement also shows pictures of James and his children throughout the years and the personalised Father’s Day card Anna chose especially for her dad. You can watch the ad here.

Anna nominated James as the most deserving dad – nicknamed ‘Sir Weeps-a-lot’ for crying at every fatherly occasion, from his children losing their first teeth to the receiving of each Father’s Day card he’s ever been sent.
